Adelaide Control Tower - 2008

Adelaide Tower at dusk with the city in the background catching the last of the sun's rays, photographed on 27 August 2008. The photo was taken from the Adelaide Terminal Control Unit compound on Tapley's Hill Rd.

This Tower is actually the third to be constructed at Adelaide/West Beach. Opened in November 1982, it replaced an earlier one built on top of the original Terminal building. Of steel frame and cladding construction, this Tower is similar to a number of other Towers constructed at about the same time, such as Albury and Moorabbin.

The Tower is 21m high. This photo clearly shows the the shallow mound on which the Tower is built. Without the mound, building regulations would have required the installation of a lift!
