Adelaide Airways 1935-36


The short-lived (in its own right) Adelaide Airways issued this rare colour postcard showing two of the aircraft in its fleet. Short S.16/1 Scion 2 VH-UUT (c/n S.789) operated services Adelaide-Mt Gambier-Essendon whilst GAL Monospar ST.25 Model A VH-UUV (c/n GAL/ST25/48) operated Adelaide-Port Lincoln.

Adelaide Airways Ltd. was formed as a subsidiary of the Adelaide Steamship Co. Ltd. on 3 July 1935 and commenced operations on 29 October. It absorbed West Australian Airways Ltd. on 12 June 1936 however it was merged with Holyman's Airways Pty. Ltd. on 2 November to form the pre- and post-war giant among Australian domestic airlines, Australian National Airways Pty. Ltd.
