Bundaberg Flight Service Unit - 1979


In 1979 the Bundaberg FSU was refurbished. The photo above shows the old console, long past its prime, just before removal.

The photo below shows the new console with its FIS 2 (left) and 1 (right) positions. Note that the single-bay desktop strip holder on the old console has been supplemented with two large multi-bay strip holders at either end of the console. The large strip holders held strips that were 'in suspense', i.e. not yet active. The FSO working at the FIS 3 (briefer/supervisor) position is Bill Keir.

 


Note also a new instrument binnacle in the centre of the console, shown in close-up below, replicating the instruments on the old console. The large dial provided altimeter setting (QHN) whilst the smaller dials provided, from top to bottom, wind speed, wind direction and (outside) air temerature.
