Shortly before his death in 1988, Edgar Johnston donated his personal collection of papers to the Civil Aviation Historical Society. This important collection includes letters between Johnston and many Australian aviaiton pioneers, reports of various kinds and other documents.

The image below shows Edgar Johnston at the function for the handover of his records to the CAHS at Aviation House, Melbourne, in June 1987. A small portion of the records are seen on the table at right. Immediately to the left of Johnston, seated against the far wall, is Roger Meyer, future long-term President of the CAHS.
