By June 1967 the construction of a new airport for Melbourne at Tullamarine was well under way. This aerial photo mosaic shows both the existing Melbourne Airport (Essendon) and the new one.

Note the position of the VAR and VOR beacons. The VAR was later decommissioned and the VOR was moved to a new location northeast of the intersection of the new airport's runways.
