This shot shows the SAR stores, in this case a helibox, exiting the aircraft. The drop zone in this exercise was on the Mangalore aerodrome. In the background, one of the ubiquitous yellow Departmental vehicles stands by to retrieve the stores. From 1983, the Fokker Friendship was largely supplanted in the SAR dropping role by the Department's new Gulfstream 1000s which had a similar range and performance, and better navigation and communication equipment.
