The cover of issue #51 of the ASD, from July 1967, shows DCA's Fokker
F.27 Friendship VH-CAT at Rabaul's
old airport. As the Digest had it: "The active volcano 'Matupi'
forms an unusual backdrop for a Departmental Fokker Friendship as it
is serviced at Rabaul, New Britain, in the course of a regular survey
flight to check the operation of radio navigational aids and airways
facilities. The volcano lies directly in line with Rabaul's single runway,
only a mile from its south-eastern end."
