Cambridge Aerodrome - 1934

Hobart's Cambridge Aerodrome seen in a 1934 aerial shot looking approximately due east. Prior to the construction of the aerodrome, the area was covered in trees and scrub.

Cambridge aerodrome still exists, but the approximate alignment of the present Hobart Airport's Runway 12-30 is also shown by the yellow line (threshold of RWY 12 closest to the road). Compare with a 2011 aerial photo.

This shot, looking approximately south-west, shows a close-up of the Cambridge runway strips and hangar area. Later, a Control Building was constructed to the right of this hangar, and an additional hangar was erected further along still. Click here to see some photos of Cambridge in 1942 showing this additional construction.
