Airways Museum Open Day 2007

Essendon: The First Melbourne Airport 1921-1971
is the theme of a new photographic exhibition to be unveiled at the 2007 Open Day at the Airways Museum. The exhibition will form the permanent foyer display at the Museum.

Using photographs drawn mainly from the CAHS collections, the exhibition shows how Essendon Airport has developed from its very first days as an open paddock to it's zenith as Melbourne's domestic and international airport, the busiest in the southern hemisphere.

After many years of stagnation since the early 1970s, Essendon Airport is once again alive with development work. A Guest Speaker from Essendon Airport P/L will present an update of plans for the airport.

Guided walking tours of the historic hangar line along Wirraway Rd (formerly the Bulla Rd) will be conducted throughout the day.
