Connellan Airways: Typical Ports

Typical of the ports served by Connellan Airways, the photo above shows one of the DH89 Dragon Rapides at Coolibah Station, NT. Note the lean-to which serves as a 'terminal'! The Connellan Airways Station information booklet What You Can Do With Your Air Service laid down the facilities to be provided by Stations served by the airline.

The most important was the provision of aircraft tie-downs, for which detailed specifications were given. In terms of structures, the minimum requirement was for a two-sided, brush-wall privacy screen "which can be used for private purposes by women passengers or by men when there are women passengers or women attending the aerodrome...". Clearly, men were expected to be men! "Stations which desire to do a little better could provide a proper lavatory, but it need only be built of brush. The lack of this facility is most embarrassing to the womenfolk who travel on our services...When requested we will provide a nicely painted notice to attach to the brush wall which says 'Ladies First'."
