Brisbane Control Tower - 2006

Brisbane Tower photographed from the air in May 2006. The 'S' building adjacent was built at the same time as the Tower.

The 'S' building originally contained the SAR Rescue Coordination Centre (RCC), administrative offices and technical areas. The RCC closed with the transfer of SAR to AusSAR in Canberra in 1997. The building also contains AusFIC - the Australian Flight Information Centre. AusFIC provides briefing and flight notification services, plus all HF communications services for the Australian Flight Information Regions (FIRs).

Just out of shot at the bottom of the photograph is the Brisbane Air Traffic Services Centre, which is responsible for controlling traffic across most of the northern half of Australia, the Timor Sea, the Tasman Sea and parts of the South Pacific.
